Our Little Firefighter

When moving to Colorado, I decided to ask Ethan what kind of room he wanted. Thinking he would want to keep his Bronco decor, being that we live in Bronco nation now .. I turned over the decision to him. He blurts out "Monster Trucks!" Of course, how stupid could I be to think you would be on board with saving us a hundred dollars and a lot of time redoing your room! So we scoured the Internet looking for monster truck bedding and decor. Surprisingly, everything we found was sort of sissy, or lame, nothing that would appeal to Ethan ... the monster truck aficionado that he is! Ethan, what is your next favorite idea? Fire Trucks! Of course it is, again hoping for the reuse of the Broncos ensemble that I had spent so much time searching for 2 years earlier. So on we went looking for Fire Trucks. We found a real cute set that was nice and so we got it. In I went to paint and decorate to make my little boy happy living in Colorado and feel like he had his own little sanctuary, if you will. He and I painted on a roadway, I ordered some fire engine/fire people reusable stickers for the wall and then I gave myself the daunting task of drawing (by hand, not stencil) a fire station on the wall, because of course the fire trucks and crew have to have a place to retreat at the end of the day! I drew the station in pencil and there it sat for about a month, dreading the thought of painting this insanely large thing I created! I put off and finally the other night Mike came to me asking if I was ever planning on finishing it. Little did he know in the back of my mind, I was praying that it would disappear because it was the last thing I had time to do! so in I went the next day and braved through it, hand cramps, kids constantly needing something and the constant critique of Ethan ... apparently a critic more than a participant. It is finished! His little fire haven is complete, fire trucks in their places. And of course, it would not be a fire station without Ethan's favorite thing, a fire pole. I can officially say our house is done!
